Black Stars Open Camp In Accra Ahead of Crucial World Cup Qualifiers
In an exciting start to their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the Ghanaian national football team, the Black Stars, held their first training session on Monday at the Accra Sports Stadium. With a crucial match against Chad looming on March 21, the players were eager to showcase their skills and teamwork.
Despite head coach Otto Addo naming a 23-man squad for the upcoming qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar, only nine players were present for the initial training session. Among the attendees were celebrated goalkeepers Benjamin Asare from Accra Hearts of Oak, Lawrence Ati-Zigi of St. Gallen, and Joseph Wollacott from Crawley Town.
The defensive lineup included Kamaradini Mamoud from Medeama SC, Mohammed Salisu of AS Monaco, Gideon Mensah from Auxerre, and Razak Simpson from Nations FC. Upfront, forwards Kamaldeen Sulemana of Southampton FC and Antoine Semenyo from AFC Bournemouth rounded out the group, bringing a mix of youth and experience to the squad.
Notably absent was West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus, who arrived in Ghana the previous night but missed the opening session.
The training session garnered attention from the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, who observed the team’s preparation. Head coach Otto Addo, alongside Technical Advisor Winfried Schäfer, led the session, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and strategy as they gear up for the qualifiers.
The Black Stars will continue their preparations with a focus on maximizing their performance ahead of the match against Chad and an away fixture against Madagascar on March 24. The team aims to secure vital points in the quest for World Cup qualification, igniting hopes of making a significant impact on the global stage.
