BoG Data Shows 20% Growth in Mobile Money Transactions to GHS 365 Billion
The value of mobile money transactions in Ghana reached a record GHS 365 billion as of April 2025, latest data released by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) has revealed.
This represents a significant increase of GH₵62 billion when compared to the GHS 303 billion recorded in the same period last year – April 2024.
According to the BoG, the number of mobile money transactions also surged to 778 million in April 2025, up from 630 million in April 2024, reflecting growing consumer confidence in mobile financial services.
Furthermore, the Balance on Float – the total amount of money held in mobile money accounts – stood at GHS 28.2 billion, representing a notable growth from GHS 19.3 billion recorded in the same month last year.
The continued growth in both value and volume of transactions underscores the increasing reliance on mobile money by individuals and businesses for day-to-day transactions and financial management, particularly in rural and underserved communities where access to traditional banking remains limited.
Analysts attribute the steady rise in mobile money adoption to increased mobile phone penetration, expansion of agent networks, and the ease of use associated with mobile money platforms.
The BoG’s data, thus, reinforces the pivotal role mobile money plays in enhancing financial inclusion and driving digital payments across the country.
