CAFCL: Medeama SC lose to Al Ahly; Galaxy stun Wydad with historic away win
Ghanaian champions Medeama suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Egypt’s Al Ahly at the Al Salam Stadium in Cairo in their debut appearance in the CAF Champions League group stage.
Despite an initially defensive strategy employed by coach Adotey, the formidable Egyptian side, led by manager Koller, showcased their prowess, securing a convincing victory.
Medeama’s defensive efforts held strong in the first half, but Koller introduced fresh attacking talent on the hour mark, changing the dynamics of the game.
The breakthrough for Al Ahly came when Kahraba opened the scoring after a poorly cleared corner fell in front of Emam Ashour who found his teammate with a cross. Kahraba diligently nodded the ball into the net leaving goalkeeper Felix Kyei helpless.
Hussein El Shahat doubled the lead nine minutes later, dealing a blow to Medeama’s aspirations. Salah Mohsen sealed the victory in the 88th minute, securing a comprehensive win for the African giants.
Medeama’s next challenge in the CAF Champions League will be against Algerian side CR Belouizdad at the Baba Yara Stadium next weekend.
