Chelsea Boss Maresca Lauds Team’s Response After Ending Winless Run
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca was relieved as his team ended a five-game winless streak with a 3-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
After a challenging first half that saw Wolves equalize just before the break, Chelsea showed resilience and determination to secure the win.
Wolves took an early lead through Tosin Adarabioyo, but Chelsea quickly responded. Matt Doherty’s equalizer sent the teams into half-time level, leaving Chelsea with a sense of missed opportunity. However, the second half brought renewed energy as Marc Cucurella and Noni Madueke scored to secure the win, restoring confidence in the squad.
“The performance until 40 minutes was very good, then the last five minutes we struggled,” Maresca said. “We need to learn to manage these situations better. In the second half, we started strong and scored the goals. Overall, I think we deserved to win.”
The victory moved Chelsea into fourth place with 40 points, just four behind Nottingham Forest in third. After two frustrating draws where they lost leads, this win was crucial for both morale and standings.
When asked about defensive issues, Maresca defended his players, noting that only a few teams have conceded fewer goals. “I think the balance is quite good between offensive and defensive,” he stated.
Maresca also backed goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, who faced criticism for the equalizer. “It’s part of our job when you make mistakes,” he said. “Robert has saved us many times; it happens, no problem.”
