Chief of Staff Orders Annulment of Post-Election Public Sector Appointments
The Government has annulled all public sector appointments and recruitments made after December 7, 2024, citing non-compliance with governance best practices.
Julius Debrah, the Chief of Staff, issued a directive instructing heads of government institutions to reverse the appointments, arguing that such last-minute decisions were inconsistent with established principles of good governance.
“Consistent with government pronouncements in relation to near end-of-tenure appointments and recruitment, I wish to bring to your attention that all appointments and recruitment made in the Public Services of Ghana after 7th December 2024, are not in compliance with established good governance practices and principles,” Mr. Debrah stated in a letter seen by NorvanReports.
The directive, which affects appointments made in the final weeks of the administration, underscores concerns over politically motivated hiring practices in Ghana’s public sector. Analysts have warned that late-stage appointments often burden incoming administrations and raise questions about transparency and fiscal responsibility.
Public sector heads have been ordered to submit a report detailing compliance with the directive to the Office of the Chief of Staff by February 17, 2025.
The move aligns with previous measures aimed at ensuring orderly government transitions and preventing last-minute administrative changes that could complicate policy continuity.
