- Clydestone and ZEN Lead Gainers as GSE Ends Session Mixed Hitting GH¢13.97m
Trading activity on the Ghana Stock Exchange strengthened on Friday, May 22, 2026, as total market turnover rose to GH¢13.97 million, driven largely by strong activity in Scancom PLC, operators of MTN Ghana.
According to the official list for the 7,217th trading session, the market recorded total volume of 2.35 million shares, with total value traded reaching GH¢13.97 million. Ordinary shares accounted for 2.34 million shares valued at GH¢13.91 million, underlining continued concentration of market liquidity in the main equities segment.
MTN Ghana dominated trading, accounting for 1.78 million shares valued at GH¢11.96 million. The telecoms stock closed unchanged at GH¢6.73, with a closing bid of GH¢6.72 and offer of GH¢6.73.
The counter’s dominance meant MTN Ghana alone contributed about 85.6 per cent of the day’s total market value, reinforcing its position as one of the most liquid and closely watched equities on the local bourse.
GCB Bank PLC was the second-largest contributor by value, recording 18,453 shares traded for GH¢682,576.47. The stock closed unchanged at GH¢36.99. Access Bank Ghana PLC also recorded notable activity, with 8,491 shares traded for GH¢234,351.60, while Cal Bank PLC traded 300,206 shares valued at GH¢227,384.75.
Clydestone Ghana PLC and ZEN Petroleum Holdings PLC emerged as the day’s key gainers. Clydestone gained GH¢0.04 to close at GH¢2.04, while ZEN Petroleum rose GH¢0.88 to close at GH¢9.68.
The gain in ZEN Petroleum was particularly significant, as the stock closed at its year high of GH¢9.68, compared with a year low of GH¢5.00. Clydestone also touched its year high of GH¢2.04, reflecting sustained positive momentum in the counter.
The market, however, ended with several decliners. Enterprise Group PLC fell by GH¢0.06 to close at GH¢10.00, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated declined by GH¢0.07 to GH¢1.33, Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC lost GH¢0.21 to close at GH¢14.75, while SIC Insurance Company PLC dropped GH¢0.14 to GH¢5.29. Societe Generale Ghana PLC also slipped by GH¢0.03 to close at GH¢6.51.
On the Exchange Traded Funds segment, NewGold recorded 117 units traded, valued at GH¢58,149, and closed unchanged at GH¢497.00. Standard Chartered Bank preference shares recorded 500 shares valued at GH¢450, also closing unchanged at GH¢0.90.
Activity on the Ghana Alternative Market remained thin. Hords PLC recorded 4,877 shares valued at GH¢585.22, while Intravenous Infusions PLC traded 3,100 shares valued at GH¢279.00. Samba Foods PLC, Meridian Marshalls Holding Company and Digicut Production & Advertising PLC recorded no trades.
Friday’s session showed a market still heavily dependent on a few liquid counters for turnover, particularly MTN Ghana, while price movement remained mixed across banking, insurance, beverage and petroleum-related stocks.
For investors, the session pointed to two broad themes: liquidity remains concentrated in blue-chip and high-interest counters, while smaller-cap and alternative market stocks continue to see limited participation.
The next trading sessions will test whether the momentum in ZEN Petroleum and Clydestone can be sustained, and whether liquidity will broaden beyond MTN Ghana into financials, consumer stocks and GAX-listed counters.
