Data Protection Commission Engages Speaker Bagbin Ahead of 2026 Data Protection Conference
Dr. Arnold Kavaarpuo, a Digital Governance and Financial Infrastructure expert, has led a delegation from the Data Protection Commission (DPC) to pay a courtesy call on the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, ahead of the upcoming Data Protection Conference scheduled for February 26–27, 2026.
The visit also served as a formal invitation to the Speaker to attend the conference as Special Guest of Honour.
Discussions during the meeting focused on commending Parliament for its leadership in advancing public sector compliance with the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843). The delegation acknowledged Parliament’s registration with the Commission, as well as the appointment and training of certified data protection supervisors within the institution.
The engagement further explored strategies to strengthen and institutionalise data protection practices across the wider public sector, with emphasis on transitioning from basic compliance to a sustained culture of responsible data stewardship.
In this regard, the parties examined the Open Parliament Initiative, highlighting the need to align transparency, citizen participation, and digital innovation with robust privacy and data governance frameworks.
The Speaker reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to strengthening Ghana’s democratic institutions and promoting trust in the country’s digital transformation agenda, underscoring the importance of safeguarding personal data in an increasingly digital public sector.
