Deloitte Football Money League 2022: Man City top for the first time
Manchester City have topped the Deloitte Money League for the first time in the club’s history, having won the Premier League, EFL Cup and reached the UEFA Champions League final during the 2020/21 season.
The Cityzens recorded an annual revenue of €644.9m, a 17% increase on last year and €4.2m more than second-placed Real Madrid.
Overall, the top 20 clubs saw average annual revenue increase from €408m to €464m. Deloitte report that this is ‘thanks to broadcast deferrals, but a 12% decrease on the 2018/19 season due to the absence of fans on matchdays’.
On broadcast revenue, Deloitte were keen to point out that this is ‘the most significant proportion of annual revenue’.
“Broadcast distribution deferrals from the 2019/20 season saw broadcast revenue reach a record high of €4.6bn in 2020/21, resuming it’s pre-pandemic position as the most significant proportion of total revenue.”
