Division One League Matchweek 14 Wrap: Samartex extend lead in Zone 2; Liberty beat Young Wise in Zone 1
Tamale City Football Club won yet again to keep the pressure on leaders Nsoatreman in Zone One of the National Division One League.
The Tamale lads who have lost only once in their last five matches defeated Wamanafo Mighty Royals 4-2 at the Aliu Mahama stadium on Saturday to reduce the gap at the top to two as they moved to 30 points – two points behind leaders Nsoatreman who are on 32 points.
The Zones leading scorer Mohammed Yahaya scored a brace in between a Charles Junior opener and Isaac Yaro’s match winner to complete the rout as the visitors also netted through Shaibu Hamidu and Kofi Asante.
Tamale City have been one of the most consistent teams in the Zone having won nine, lost two and drawn 5 of the 14 matches played thus far.
League leaders Nsoatreman were held 1-1 by Berekum Arsenal – bringing to an end a four match winning run. Nsoatreman are the only side in the League yet to taste defeat but their winning run in this seasons League has been absolutely brilliant – after picking nine wins and 5 draws and going 14 matches without defeat.
In Wa – Wa Yassin and Wa Suntaa shared the spoils in their derby clash at the Malick Jabir Park.
Wa Yassin who are 5th in the table were tipped to beat their city rivals – rooted at the bottom of the table but both teams worked off their socks as they shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
Korsah scored for Yassin before Ibrahim Baba equalised for Wa Suntaa to keep the result even.

Former Premier League campaigners B.A United pip Bolga All Stars 1-0 at the Sunyani Coronation Park with striker Adams Musah scoring the only goal of the match on Sunday.
Samartex FC have opened a six point gap at the top of the Zone Two League table following a 1-0 win against Future Stars on Match Day 14 of the Division One League on Sunday.
The League leaders scored the only goal of the match through Prince Antwi in the 5th minute as they registered their 10th win of the campaign. With only one match to end the first round of the season – Samartex lead the table with 33 points – six points richer than Nzema Kotoko and New Edubiase who share the second and third spots with the same number of points (27).
In Ajumako, Isaac Mintah scored in the second half as New Edubiase United pip Soccer Intellectuals 1-0 to move joint second in the League with Nzema Kotoko. The lanky attacker scored within 5 minutes after the break as he broke down the left flank before smashing home from close range as the visitors walked away with all the spoils – winning their 8th match of the season.
In Daboase Cape Coast Mysterious Dwarfs were beaten 1-0 by Skyy FC at St. Martins Park. Baba Hamadu Musah scored from the spot in the 25th minute give Skyy FC the maximum points as they moved to the 5th spot with 22 points – four points behind 4th placed Ebusua Dwarfs and 11 points off leaders Samartex 1996.
Liberty Professionals continued their resurgence in the Division One League with a 2-0 win against Accra Young Wise on Match Day 14 of the second tier competition at the Blue Sky Park at Doboro on Sunday. The Scientific Soccer lads have been brilliant in recent matches having recovered from a slow start to the season that travelled four matches without a win.
The Dansoman based club have recorded 7 wins, 2 defeats and 5 draws in the process – picking 26 points and moving to the third spot in the Zone Three standings.
Liberty Professionals scored in either half through Godfred Atuahene and Jabir Ibrahim on Sunday. Atuahene opened the scoring in the 43rd minute before Jabir added the match winner in the 73rd minute to take his tally to 9 goals after 14 matches.
The win takes the former Premier League side to three points off the top spot after trimming the gap to leaders Tema Youth who beat Nania FC 2-0 at the Tema Park on Sunday.
Elsewhere in the Habour City of Tema – Tema Youth defeated Nania FC 2-0 to stay at the top spot with 29 points.
Reginald Lartey scored yet again in the first half as Evans Osei Wusu netted the second goal in the second half to win the day for Tema Youth who are two points richer than second placed Akyem Oda Kotoku Royals who have amassed 27 points after 14 League matches.
On Monday, Vision FC shocked Akatsi All Stars 2-1 at the WAFA Park at Sogakope to improve their place in the standings.
Gideon Ofei broke the deadlock in the 48th minute after tapping in Johnson Osei’s delicious cross. The provider later became the scorer in the 56th minute – as he smashed home an absolute beauty to give Vision FC a 2-0 advantage – before the home side pulled one back in the 81st minute through Jonathan Nemorden.
Vision FC held on to win 2-1 to move to the 8th spot with 22 points with a game to end the first round of the season.
