Ecobank Ghana, Standard Chartered Seek Extension for Financial Statements Submission to GSE
Ecobank Ghana and Standard Chartered Bank Ghana have requested an extension from the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) to submit their audited financial statements.
In separate statements to the GSE, the two financial institutions sought approval to delay their submissions until March 31, 2025, which has been granted by the GSE.
However, neither bank disclosed the specific reasons for the extension request.
Listed companies may request an extension for submitting their financial statements for a variety of reasons, the extension granted to the two banks by the GSE is, however, not uncommon, as the audit process is often a time-consuming and rigorous exercise that requires a significant amount of resources, personnel, and attention to detail.
Typically, delays in financial reporting can be attributed to several factors, including incomplete audits, complex accounting issues, ongoing legal investigations, significant changes in business operations, data system issues, natural disasters, internal control deficiencies, auditor disagreements, and also a lack of preparedness by the company’s finance team.
The GSE’s decision to grant an extension to the banks is in line with its commitment to ensuring that all listed companies comply with the rules and regulations governing the capital markets.
The timely submission of audited financial statements is an essential requirement that provides investors with the necessary information to make informed investment decisions.
