EPA grants permit for Kwahu Airport Project
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has granted Kwahu Airport Limited the permit to commence the proposed construction and operation of an airport at Nkwantanang-Ahinase in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region of Ghana.
The permit is, however, conditioned upon obtaining other permits from the relevant institutions such as the aviation sector regulator–Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, national security, and other international agencies.
The permit issued on March 10, 2022 expires on September 9, 2023.
Member of Parliament for Abetifi constituency, Hon. Bryan Acheampong, who is championing the project, said he will work at developing tourism in his constituency and Kwahu at large.
“My personal commitment to the development of Kwahu and the people that live in it, we’ll not relent! The promise that I made to the people of Tafo in my effort to transform this place as the tourist centre of Ghana, the convention centre with the building of hotels and the establishment of airstrip and airport shall materialize, it will,” he affirmed in an earlier speech.
Kwahu is a growing tourism destination and famed for Easter celebrations, paragliding festival, and the renowned world-class Rock City Hotel.
The paragliding festival, is an annual event held during Easter (usually in April). Coordinated by the Ghana Tourism Authority, seasoned Pilots from around the world are invited to fly hundreds of people during the 3-4 day event at Kwahu Atibie.
The event has over the years flown thousands of people and given them memorable experiences.
