ExxonMobil Units declare force majeure on oil liftings in Nigeria
Exxon Mobil Corp. units in Nigeria declared force majeure on oil loadings from multiple terminals in the country following industrial action, a spokesman for one of the firms said.
Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited, Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Ltd., and Esso Exploration and Production (Offshore East) Ltd. declared the measure from their respective terminals, a spokesman for the first of those firms said by email.
Exxon is one of the largest oil producers in Nigeria. Force majeure allows companies to skip their contractual obligations due to circumstances beyond their control.
Nigerian oil supply has been beset by disruptions, including theft from oil pipelines, for a number of years.
