FC Samartex secure historic qualification to the Ghana Premier League
FC Samartex 1996 have secured promotion to the Ghana Premier League (GPL) for the first time in the club’s history.
The Samreboi-based club have dominated Zone Two of the 2021/22 Division One League for most parts of the campaign, confirming their promotion with three games left after drawing 0-0 away to Swedru All Blacks to go 58 points on Sunday.
A 1-0 defeat for second-placed Ebusua Dwarfs at Nzema Kotoko – in one of the match-day 27 fixtures – ensured that Samartex open an unassailable 10-point lead and mathematically secured their place for the 2022/23 GPL.
The qualification to Ghana’s topflight is the first in Samartex’s history since their establishment in 1996.
The club tweeted via their official handle confirming their new status.
“The Management of FC Samartex 1996 wish to inform our vociferous supporters who are anxiously awaiting our return at Samreboi that the team will arrive around 6:00am tomorrow.”
“We, therefore, call on our supporters to welcome our Gallant Warriors in their numbers.”
FC Samartex will play Hasaacas next at home before the two remaining games against Future Stars and New Edubiase United football club.
