GFA Announces One-Week Break for Competitions Ahead of December Elections
In a significant move to encourage civic engagement, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has declared a one-week pause for all its competitions in December.
This decision, announced on Wednesday, aims to allow players, officials, and fans to participate in the upcoming national General Elections, scheduled for December 7, 2024.
According to the GFA’s 2024/25 season calendar, the break will affect a range of tournaments, including the Ghana Premier League, the Access Bank Division One League, and the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League.
This suspension will take effect following the matches this weekend, which encompass the MTN FA Cup Round of 64 and Matchday 6 fixtures of the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League.
Clubs and match officials have already been notified of the upcoming hiatus, and this announcement serves as a reminder for all stakeholders involved in Ghana’s vibrant football scene. Fans can expect the return of action on the weekend of December 13, 2024, when competitions will resume, reinvigorated by the spirit of democracy and community participation.
