- GFA Confirms 18 Clubs for 2026/27 Ghana Premier League Season
The lineup for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League has been officially confirmed, with 18 clubs set to battle for the country’s top-flight title in what promises to be another fiercely contested campaign.
Three clubs will make history by competing in the Ghana Premier League for the first time after securing promotion from the Division One League. Port City earned promotion as champions of Zone Three, Ashantigold ’04 topped Zone Two, while Debibi United emerged winners of Zone One to complete the trio of newcomers.
Their promotion marks a major milestone as they prepare to test themselves against some of Ghana’s most established clubs.
The newly promoted sides join 15 returning clubs, including defending champions Medeama SC, who will begin the new season determined to retain the title they won during the 2025/26 campaign.
The Tarkwa-based club will face stiff competition from rivals eager to end their reign and lift the league trophy at the end of the season.
The composition of the league has changed following the conclusion of the previous campaign. Nations FC and Eleven Wonders were relegated to the Division One League after failing to preserve their top-flight status, while Hohoe United withdrew from the competition, creating room for the three promoted clubs.
The 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season is scheduled to kick off over the weekend of September 4–7, 2026, with the final round of matches expected to be played between May 28 and 31, 2027.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that the league will continue with its traditional format, with most matches taking place on weekends to encourage greater fan attendance and improve the matchday experience.
Midweek fixtures will only be used to clear outstanding matches, helping maintain a balanced schedule throughout the campaign.
The Football Association says it remains committed to delivering a well-organised, competitive and uninterrupted season, ensuring clubs, players, match officials and supporters enjoy another successful chapter of Ghana’s premier football competition.
