GFA launch two new competitions; the Women’s Super Cup and KGL U-17 Champions League
The GFA has launched two new competitions in the women’s and youth football as the football calendar takes shape.
The QIC Women’s Premier Super Cup and the KGL U17 Interclub Champions League will be staged from this month to round off the 2021 football calendar.
The Women’s Super League has been slated for the end of the month with the 8 best teams in women’s football in Ghana set to compete.
Ampem Darkoa Ladies, Prisons Ladies, Kumasi Sports Academy and Ashtown Ladies will represent the Northern Zone whilst double winners Hasaacas Ladies, Berry Ladies, Soccer Intellectuals and Ladystrikers compete from the Southern Zone.
The teams have been grouped into two – Ampem Darkoa, Soccer Intellectuals, Prisons and Berry Ladies making Group “A” while Hasaacas, Ladystrikers, Kumasi Sports Academy and Ashtown Ladies make Group “B”.
The league will be played simultaneously using the Madina Zurak Park and the McDan La Town Park.
Speaking at the launch, Chairwoman of the competition, Hon. Barbara Ayisi, elucidated more on the purpose of the tournament.
“This cup is to help us develop female football in our country, nurture talent, to motivate clubs and to create additional competition”

The matches will begin on Friday 25th November and will be played at The Madina Zurak Park and McDan La Town Park respectively.
The tournament will serve as a preparatory ground and additional incentive to clubs and players ahead of the 2021/2022 season which will commence in January 2022.
As a priority for the current administration, The KGL U17 Champions League has now become the new national youth tournament as it has been 2 years since youth football has been standardized.
Mr. Kudjo Fianoo, vice-chairperson of the U17 Interclub Champions League, speaking in the stead of Chairman Daniel McKorley outlined why youth football was so important.
“It is said, that every good contractor builds his foundations first and only bad contractors start from the roof and I want commend the GFA President from starting from the foundation.”
The championship has started at the regional level. Twelve final regional winners will assemble in Accra for the finals starting on December 6th 2021.
