  • GFA Unveils 2026/27 Ghana Premier League Fixtures

The countdown to the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League has officially begun after the Ghana Football Association (GFA) released the full fixture list for the new campaign, setting up an exciting season packed with blockbuster clashes, regional rivalries, newly promoted clubs and what promises to be another fiercely contested title race.

Reigning champions Medeama SC will begin the defence of their crown with a tricky away fixture against Dreams FC, while last season’s runners-up Bibiani Gold Stars also face a difficult opening assignment away to Bechem United.

The new season is scheduled to kick off between September 4 and 7, 2026, with all 18 clubs beginning their quest for league glory, continental qualification and survival. The campaign will conclude over the weekend of May 28–31, 2027, after 34 rounds of matches.

Champions Medeama Handed Tough Opening Test

Medeama SC will have little time to celebrate last season’s title triumph as they travel to Dawu to face Dreams FC in one of the standout fixtures of the opening weekend.

The Mauve and Yellow enter the new campaign as the team to beat after lifting their maiden Ghana Premier League title and will be eager to prove last season was no fluke.

Bibiani Gold Stars, who narrowly missed out on the championship, must also negotiate a difficult away trip to Bechem United, another side known for its formidable home record.

Debibi United Make Historic Premier League Debut Against Kotoko

One of the biggest stories of Matchday One will unfold when newly promoted Debibi United make their long-awaited Ghana Premier League debut.

The newcomers could hardly have asked for a bigger occasion, as they welcome Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko for their first-ever top-flight fixture.

After earning promotion with an impressive campaign, Debibi now face an immediate test against one of the country’s most successful clubs, making the fixture one of the most anticipated opening-day encounters.

Hearts of Oak Begin Fresh Title Chase at Home

Hearts of Oak will launch another attempt to reclaim the league crown when they host Berekum Chelsea in Accra.

The Phobians have endured several inconsistent campaigns in recent years and will hope a strong start can lay the foundation for a sustained title challenge.

Their supporters will also be eager to see whether the club’s recruitment during the transfer window can translate into improved performances on the pitch.

Newcomers Port City Face AshantiGold in Historic Meeting

Another chapter in Ghanaian football history will be written when newly promoted Port City FC welcome FC AshantiGold 04.

The fixture marks the first-ever Premier League meeting between the two clubs and guarantees that at least one newly promoted side will begin life in the top flight with valuable points.

Super Clash Dates Finally Confirmed

The dates for Ghana’s biggest domestic football fixture have also been confirmed.

The first Super Clash between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak will take place on Matchday 13, between December 4 and 7, 2026, with Kotoko hosting their arch-rivals.

The return fixture will be played on Matchday 30, between April 30 and May 3, 2027, when Hearts welcome Kotoko in what could prove decisive in the title race.

As always, the Super Clash is expected to attract nationwide attention, packed stadiums and intense rivalry, regardless of each club’s position on the league table.

Regional Derbies Set to Ignite the Season

Beyond the Super Clash, supporters can look forward to numerous regional battles throughout the campaign.

The Brong Ahafo Derby begins on Matchday Three when Debibi United host Young Apostles before facing Berekum Chelsea on Matchday Six and Bechem United on Matchday Eight. Aduana FC will also renew their rivalry with Bechem United on Matchday Eleven.

The Western Derby promises equally exciting contests, with Medeama hosting Basake Holy Stars on Matchday Four before entertaining Bibiani Gold Stars on Matchday Nine in one of the biggest fixtures involving two recent title contenders.

Fans in the capital will enjoy another edition of the Capital Derby when Vision FC host Hearts of Oak on Matchday Seven, while the Ashanti Derby between FC AshantiGold 04 and Asante Kotoko is scheduled for Matchday Eight, with the reverse fixture taking place on Matchday Twenty-Five.

Final Day Could Decide the Championship

The closing round of fixtures has all the ingredients for a dramatic finish.

Hearts of Oak will host champions Medeama SC in a potentially decisive encounter, while Asante Kotoko travel to Basake Holy Stars.

Elsewhere, Vision FC welcome Swedru All Blacks, Bibiani Gold Stars entertain Karela United, and Debibi United conclude their historic maiden Premier League campaign at home against Aduana FC.

Should the title race remain tight until the final weekend as has happened in several recent seasons the last round could produce another thrilling conclusion.

Player Welfare Takes Centre Stage

The GFA has retained its policy of no official midweek league fixtures, meaning the entire season will be played across 34 weekend matchdays.

The decision is aimed at reducing travel fatigue, improving player recovery and easing financial pressure on clubs, particularly those undertaking long journeys across the country.

The governing body believes the scheduling structure will improve the overall quality of matches while helping clubs better manage their squads throughout the campaign.

With the fixtures now confirmed, clubs can begin detailed preparations for the new season as Ghanaian football fans eagerly await another nine months of intense competition, fierce rivalries and unforgettable moments in what promises to be one of the most competitive Ghana Premier League seasons in recent years.
