Ghana Gas resolves unplanned gas supply reduction challenge; resumes supply to power generating companies

Ghana National Gas Limited Company has successfully rectified the unforeseen decline in natural gas supply to power generation entities, assuring the general public of restored stability.

The disruption, which occurred on Friday, 7th July, 2023, was attributed to an incident affecting the on-site power generation system, resulting in a temporary shutdown of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM. This unexpected development led to a significant 30% reduction in the gas supply delivered to downstream power and non-power customers.

Responding swiftly to the challenge, Ghana Gas deployed a dedicated team of engineers and third-party contractors who worked around the clock to restore normal operations within a remarkable five-hour timeframe.

During the outage period, the company implemented emergency measures, including the utilization of mobile power generation units, to facilitate the continued transportation of natural gas to various power generation companies. These swift actions effectively mitigated the impact of the incident.

The Atuabo Gas Processing Plant, a critical asset in Ghana’s energy infrastructure, was successfully reactivated at 5:30 PM on Friday, 7th July, 2023. Since then, it has resumed full-scale operations, ensuring uninterrupted gas supply to meet the nation’s energy demands.

Ghana National Gas Limited Company emphasizes its unwavering commitment to continuously enhance its operational processes, positioning itself as a reliable strategic partner for the country’s power generation companies. By prioritizing continuous improvement, the company aims to further strengthen its position within the industry, while effectively serving the needs of the Ghanaian people.
