Ghana, will today, February 24, 2021, be receiving its first batch of the Covid-19 vaccines.
Health Minister-designate, Kwaku Agyeman Manu, is expected to lead a high-powered government delegation to receive the vaccines at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) at 7am, Wednesday morning.
The event will be broadcasted on local television channels according to a statement by the Information Ministry.
The first batch of vaccines forms part of the total 2.4 million doses Ghana is expected to receive from the COVAX facility. Ghana is among some 145 countries listed to receive vaccines from a number of suppliers through the COVAX facility according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
Mass vaccination exercise against Covid-19 according to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) will begin in March for selected segments of the population.
Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, the Presidential Advisor on Health, has said the vaccination will be free for all Ghanaians.
Meanwhile, the Noguchi Memorial Institute has admitted the vaccines would have some side effects, but will only last for two days.
