Ghana is expected to take delivery of its first badge of Covid-19 vaccines within the first half of this year.
This was made known by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in his 21st televised address to the nation on measures taken by government to curb the spread of the virus in the country.
“Ghana is to take first delivery of the Covid vaccine within the first half of 2021,” he said.
The two readily available Covid-19 vaccines are those manufactured by Pfizer-BioNTech and AstraZeneca.
The president speaking further in his address, admonished Ghanaians to continue with the strict adherence to the Covid-19 protocols as the country despite having one of the lowest active cases in the world, has not yet gotten rid of the virus.
“We are not yet out of the woods, so let’s all continue down the part of strict adherence to the Covid-19 protocols, there is nothing beyond us as we are the first in sub-Saharan region to free ourselves form colonial rule, we can do it,” he stated.
According to the president, as of January 1, 2021, only 879 active cases had been recorded with 18 persons critically ill. Total deaths recorded so far the president noted are 336.
Six hundred and seventy-four thousand, eight hundred and twelve (674,812) tests have so far been conducted with fifty-five thousand, two hundred and twenty (55,220) positive cases detected of which fifty-four thousand and five (54,005) recoveries have been recorded.
