Ghana Tourism Authority sets May 31 as deadline day for regularisation of apartments operating as AirBnB

The Ghana Tourism Authority has set May 31 as the deadline for owners of apartments operating as AirBnB to regularize their operations.

The Authority says beyond the said date, all such enterprises and other tourism and hospitality establishments that don’t have the necessary certifications will be closed down in June 2022.

“All tourism enterprises, including apartments operating as AirBnB without a valid license from the Authority, contravenes section 25(2) of the Tourism Act, 2011 (Act 817) and will have their establishments closed down and sanctioned.”

“All tourism enterprises must also pay outstanding levies before the commencement of the enforcement exercise,” a statement issued by the Corporate Affairs Department of the Authority on May 16, 2022 said.

AirBnB is an American company that operates an online marketplace for lodging, primarily homestays for vacation rentals, and tourism activities.
