Ghana will be in Pot 4 ahead of the World Cup draw in Doha
The Black Stars of Ghana will be in Pot 4 ahead of the group stage draw of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Friday, April 1 with the draw set to be held in Doha at 16:00 GMT.
According to the FIFA rules and regulations, the procedures approved by the Organising Committee for FIFA Competitions outline that the 28 already qualified teams will be allocated according to sporting principles from pots 1 to 4 based on the FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking released on 31 March following the conclusion of the international match window.
At default, hosts Qatar will take position A1 from Pot 1, where they will be joined by the seven highest-ranked qualified teams from the FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking to complete the first set of group positions from B1 to H1.
The teams occupying positions 8-15 in the rankings of the qualified teams will be allocated to Pot 2, with the 16th-23rd best-ranked qualifiers being placed in Pot 3.
Finally, Pot 4 will include the qualified teams in positions 24 to 28, plus three placeholders representing the two winners of the intercontinental play-offs and the remaining UEFA play-off winner.
With Ghana currently ranked 61st in the world, the Black Stars after securing qualification in Abuja on Tuesday after a 1-1 draw with Nigeria, will be in pot 4 according to the rules stated above.
Ghana will be hoping for a more open group after being handed a difficult one in their last appearance, after being drawn in the same group with eventual winners Germany, Portugal, and the United States of America.
The 2022 World Cup gets underway in November this year.
