Ghs 22 billion increase in value of MoMo transactions recorded for in H1 2021
Value of mobile money transactions (MoMo) for the first half of this year increased by Ghs 22 billion.
Data contained in the Central Bank’s July 2021 Summary of Economic and Financial Data report indicate that, value of MoMo transactions grew from Ghs 67.1 billion in January to Ghs 89.1 billion as at end-June 2021.
On a year-on-year basis- June 2020 to June 2021- value of MoMo transactions increased by some Ghs 43.8 billion.
Total mobile money transactions according to the Bank of Ghana (BoG), stood at 338 million transactions at the end of June 2021, an increase of 37 million transactions from the January figure of 301 million transactions.
On a year-on-year basis, mobile money transactions increased by 112 million transactions.
Mobile money interoperability – the ability of individuals to transfer monies to other networks – for the review period also increased from Ghs 906 million in January to Ghs 1.6 billion in June this year.
Recorded total number of mobile money interoperability transactions for the first half of 2021 stood at 10.3 million, an increase of 4.6 million transactions from the January figure of 5.7 million transactions.
Registered mobile money accounts the BoG notes, increased by 4.3 million for the period under with mobile money accounts amounting to 44.3 million at the end of the first half of the year, with active mobile money accounts accounting for 18.3 million of total registered accounts.
