Government impose travel ban on 3 countries
The Government of Ghana (GoG) through the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, has announced a 14-day temporary ban on travelers coming into the country from three selected countries.
The affected countries the Ministry reveals in a series of press releases include South Korea, Israel and Malta.
The ban according to the Ministry commences on Monday, December 20, 2021.
For travelers coming from Israel, the Ministry noted travelers will only be allowed into the country for “exceptional humanitarian cases or official travels,” for which permission will first have to be sought from the Ministry.
With regards to travelers from Malta, the Ministry in its press release noted the government “does not recognize any vaccine certificate from Malta,” hence the imposition of the temporary ban on travelers from the country.
The travel ban on the selected countries is in view of the fast spreading Omicron variant currently ravaging economies around the world and forcing countries to re-impose restrictions such as lockdwns and travel bans.
As of last week, Ghana’s case count of the Omicron variant stood at 41.
