GRIDCo attributes power outage on Thursday evening to shortage in gas supply

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has shed light on the recent power cuts affecting various regions of the country. In an official statement released by the company, it was revealed that the primary cause of these outages was a constrained gas supply to the Tema power generation facilities, resulting in a substantial shortage of 550MW during peak hours.

This shortage, as explained by GRIDCo, subsequently triggered power disruptions that were experienced in several parts of Ghana on Thursday night. The company has expressed its regret for any inconvenience caused by these unforeseen electricity interruptions.

The acknowledgment of the gas supply limitation and the power cuts comes as GRIDCo endeavors to maintain transparency and provide clarity to the public regarding the factors influencing the energy supply within the nation. GRIDCo says it remains committed to addressing these challenges and ensuring the reliability and stability of the national power grid.
