GRIDCo restores power to the Northern Regions following disruption by system disturbance

The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has issued a public notice regarding a significant system disturbance that impacted the supply of power to all regions in the North, beginning at 5:40 am local time on Wednesday, February 7, 2024.

The disruption, GRIDCo says was traced back to a critical incident that occurred at 05:29 am, when a 330/161kV auto transformer stationed at the Kintampo substation experienced a tripping event. This malfunction subsequently led to an outage along the Anwomaso-Kumasi Transmission Line, triggering the broader system disturbance affecting the northern regions.

GRIDCo asserts that it swiftly initiated restoration procedures in response to the disruption. Their concerted efforts led to full power restoration by 07:35 am, alleviating the inconvenience faced by residents and businesses in the affected areas.

GRIDCo in the statement issued, expressed its regrets for any inconvenience caused by the disruption and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the reliability and stability of the power grid.

This incident underscores the complexities involved in managing a robust power infrastructure and highlights the vital role played by GRIDCo in promptly addressing operational challenges to minimize disruptions to daily life and economic activities.

It also serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts required to bolster the resilience of the power sector infrastructure, ensuring uninterrupted access to electricity for all citizens across Ghana’s regions.
