GSA Defers Smart Port Note Rollout Pending Further Stakeholder Consultations

The Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) has announced the deferment of the rollout of the Smart Port Note (SPN), which was originally scheduled to take effect from February 1, 2026.

In a notice issued on January 20, 2026, the Authority said the decision follows the emergence of issues requiring further clarification and alignment with key stakeholders, subsequent to an earlier notice released on December 23, 2025.

According to the GSA, the postponement is intended to allow for an additional round of stakeholder consultations to address outstanding concerns before the implementation of the SPN framework.

“The implementation date of the Smart Port Note (SPN), which was scheduled to commence on 1st February 2026 (load-on-board date), has been deferred in order to subject the outstanding issues to an additional round of stakeholder consultations prior to implementation,” the Authority stated.

The GSA assured the shipping public that a new date for the rollout of the Smart Port Note will be communicated in due course.
