GSE Performance: YTD loss declines to 14%

The negative year-to-date (YTD) returns on prices of shares listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) declined by some 2 percentage points at the close of trading activities on Wednesday, August 3.

The decline was on the back of gains recorded by the benchmark index – GSE Composite Index.

The GSE Composite Index gains 54.95 points to close trading at 2,395.02 points now representing  the YTD returns of -14.14 from the previous YTD returns of -16%.

The GSE Financial Stock Index (GSE-FSI) also slightly gained 0.)1 points to close trading at 2,089.88 points translating into a YTD return of -2.88%.

Gains recorded by the benchmark index was driven by share price increments of two stocks being Access Bank and MTNGH with the two stocks emerging as the only gainers on the local bourse.

The two stocks gained GHS 0.12 and GHS 0.05 in share price to close trading at GHS 2.90 and GHS 0.80 respectively.

Market capitalisation of the GSE on the back of gains recorded increased to GHS 62.81bn.

Meanwhile, a total of 3,814,968 shares valued at GHS 3,056,957 was traded on the day. Compared with the previous GSE trading day (August 2), Wednesday’s data shows a 93.75% decline in volume traded and 93.38% decline in trade turnover.

MTNGH accounted for 99.94% of the total value traded and recorded the largest volumes traded.

SUMMARY OF JUNE 2022 MARKET ACTIVITIES

Activity on the market remained high as the number of transactions in the month of June was 2,143 as compared to 1,529 for the same period last year. Volume traded was 48,234,978 valued at GH¢45,258,781.42. Volume traded was up by 28.73% with value declining by 10.08% compared with same period last year.

Cumulative volume (1,091,071,021) and value (GH¢ 1,061,594,860.66) traded for the year represent an increase of 233.56% and 245.17% over the same period last year.
