GSE: Stock market ends week with 2 gainers and 4 decliners

The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) ended last week with a gain of 1.61 points to close trading at 2,730,37 points.

The recorded gains translates into a year-to-date (YTD) returns of -2.11%.

The GSE Financial Stock also lost 10.26 points to close the week at 2,117.65 points translating into a YTD returns of -1.59%.

The recorded gain in the benchmark GSE-CI and loss in the GSE-FSI was due to the simultaneous gain and loss in six equities on the local bourse.

CAL Bank and GGBL emerged the gainers on the stock market posting 6.25% and 16.67% increment in share prices respectively.

GGBL with the 16.67% share price increment ended Friday’s trading session with a closing price of GHS 2.10 from an opening price of GHS 1.80.

CAL Bank, with a 6.25% increment in share price, ended Friday’s trading session with a closing price of GHS 0.85 from an opening price of GHS 0.80.

The four equities that recorded losses in share prices and as such emerged decliners on the local bourse include: Access Bank, BOPP, MTNGH and GCB.

The equities respectively lost 18.25%, 7.26%, 2.70% and 0.76% in share prices.

Market capitalization thus decreased by GH¢16.80 million to close the trading week at GH¢ 63.73 billion. 

A total of 10.24 million shares valued at GH¢12.58 million traded during the week compared to 5.91 million shares valued at GH¢6.46 million which traded the previous week. 

Scancom PLC. (MTNGH)recorded the most trades per value traded for a third week running as it accounted for 73.49% of the total value traded.
