Guardiola labels Liverpool the ‘toughest opponent’ he has ever faced

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has snubbed Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid side as he claims Liverpool are the ‘toughest opponent’ he has ever faced in his managerial career.

City moved six points clear at the top of the Premier League with their 4-1 victory over rivals Manchester United on Sunday.

But Guardiola insists The Reds are ‘outstanding’ despite coming up against the likes of Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid during his time with Barcelona as well as Jurgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund when he was at Bayern Munich.

City and Liverpool are the only teams to have won the Premier League since 2017 and have created a real dominance.

It is expected to be another exciting end to the season with Liverpool having a game in hand on the Citizens heading into the final stretch.

‘To fight with them (Liverpool) is one of the biggest achievements of my career. They are outstanding.

‘Liverpool are the toughest opponent I have ever faced in my 12-13 years as a manager.’

Both clubs are still fighting for silverware on three different fronts this season, including the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.

‘Hopefully we can say we are a pain in the a** for Liverpool too.

‘I said many times the success as a manager is the fact that year after year we still run like we are there to win again, even after three titles.

‘We remain humble and continue to play every single game, do it and be there, these guys have done it many, many times.’

City have just 10 Premier League fixtures left this season while Liverpool have 11 left to play as the title races begins to get exciting.

The two sides will meet on April, 10 at the Etihad Stadium.
