Hearts of Oak gem Daniel Afriyie Barnieh joins Swiss side FC Zurich
Accra Hearts of Oak attkacing gem Daniel Afriyie Barnieh has completed a move to FC Zurich in Switzerland until the summer of 2026.
The 21-year-old will join the Swiss club after the 2022 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) in Algeria from January 13 to February 4, 2023 and will reportedly be earning around US$12,000 as a monthly salary.
Afriyie Barnieh attracted interest from clubs in Africa, Europe, and America following his spell with the Black Stars at the World Cup in Qatar and his heroics with the various national team’s.
The latest announcement comes on the same day that Hearts confirmed that the striker had renewed his contract with the club.
Head of Sport at FC Zurich, Marinko Jurendic said:
“Daniel Afriyie is a dynamic and versatile attacking player who has a courageous style of play. He should take the next step in our development at FCZ and give our game further opportunities forward.”
He has also been impressive for the Ghana home-based national team who are currently camping in Egypt ahead of the 2022 CHAN tournament which begins in a fortnight in Algeria.
The highly-rated footballer scored three goals in four matches to propel the Black Galaxies to seal qualification for the CHAN tournament.
He was also involved in Ghana U23 as he scored in both legs in their qualifying match against Mozambique a few months back.
Afriyie Barnieh signed for Hearts in July 2019 and went ahead to become a regular starter in the team having played an integral role in the club’s double triumph in the 2020-21 campaign.
Afriyie Barnieh was instrumental in Hearts of Oak journey back to greatness, contributing 13 goals and four assists in 69 competitive games for the club.
