- Henderson And João Pedro Score Twice as Chelsea Crush Bournemouth 5-1
Jordan Henderson scored twice and created another goal as Chelsea swept aside Bournemouth 5-1 at Stamford Bridge to secure a convincing return to winning ways in the Premier League.
João Pedro also struck twice, while Morgan Rogers completed the scoring as Xabi Alonso’s side moved up to fifth place with 10 points.
Chelsea effectively took control of the match inside the opening three minutes. Henderson opened the scoring in the second minute, converting after Cole Palmer carried the ball forward and found the veteran midfielder near the edge of the penalty area.
Barely a minute later, Henderson turned provider, setting up Rogers to double Chelsea’s lead. The second goal arrived after just two minutes and 29 seconds the earliest Chelsea have established a two-goal advantage in a Premier League match.
Bournemouth struggled to recover from the damaging opening but prevented Chelsea from adding to their advantage before half-time.
The hosts restored their attacking momentum immediately after the interval. João Pedro scored Chelsea’s third in the 46th minute, converting from Pedro Neto’s delivery.
Evanilson reduced the deficit five minutes later, giving Bournemouth brief hope of mounting a comeback. However, Chelsea quickly regained control, with João Pedro scoring his second in the 67th minute.
Henderson completed the rout three minutes later with a well-struck 25-yard free-kick, sealing his brace and an influential performance on his first home start for Chelsea.
The 36-year-old’s contribution extended beyond his two goals and assist. His experience, positioning and distribution provided greater balance in Chelsea’s midfield, particularly alongside Moisés Caicedo.
Caicedo was making his first start of the season after recovering from a calf injury that had restricted him to a brief substitute appearance in August.
Alonso said the Ecuadorian’s return gave Chelsea greater control in central areas.
“With him we have a better midfield area, and when you are better in the middle you have a more complete team and something to build around,” the Chelsea manager said.
The victory ended Chelsea’s three-match winless sequence in the league and provided an emphatic response to their 3-0 defeat by Brentford before the international break.
However, Bournemouth’s goal extended Chelsea’s run without a Premier League clean sheet to 22 matches, underlining the defensive weakness Alonso must still address despite the strength of the attacking performance.
For Bournemouth, the result deepened a difficult start under Marco Rose. The Cherries remain without a league victory and were again punished for defensive errors and their inability to control the opening stages.
Chelsea’s rapid start, Caicedo’s successful return and Henderson’s commanding performance offered Alonso several encouraging signs. The challenge will now be to convert one dominant result into the consistency that has so far eluded his side.
