The High Court has dismissed a suit brought against the National Communications Authority (NCA) by a private legal practitioner named Francis Kwarteng Arthur, seeking to halt the on-going SIM card registration exercise by the NCA.
According to Lawyer Francis Arthur, the collection of personal data of mobile network subscribers for the re-registration exercise must be stopped by the High Court.
Aside seeking an enforcement of his fundamental human rights to administrative justice, to speech, to information and to privacy, the applicant also sought an interlocutory injunction to halt the process until the final determination of the case.
Per the Court’s ruling, its decision to withdraw the application for Interlocutory Injunction by Lawyer Francis Arthurm [the Applicant], followed the filing of an affidavit in opposition by the NCA which stated amongst others that the ongoing SIM card registration exercise is backed by law.

Announcing the Court’s ruling in a press release, the NCA noted, “With the determination of the court today, the NCA wishes to announce to the general public that the SIM registration exercise is still on-going.”
“We therefore urge subscribers who have not started registering their SIM Cards to do so by dialing *404# and to follow the prompts.”
