I should have chosen Senegal instead of France – Evra

Former France and Manchester United left-full back, Patrice Evra, says if he could go back in time, he would have chosen to represent Senegal instead of France.

Evra, who was born in Senegal, decided to play for France, the country where he grew up, when he presented with the opportunity.

The 41-year old made these comments when he paid a courtesy call on President Nana Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House on Wednesday as part of his visit to Ghana.

“When I was young, my parents gave me the choice to choose my national team and because I grew up in France, I chose France.” He said.

“I understood later that it is important to choose your country of birth, because football has become about politics.

“When you win, you’re a France player, but when you lose, you’re a Senegal player.”
