Finance Minister Amin Adam vows aggressive revenue mobilization

In a bid to fortify Ghana’s fiscal position and meet expenditure targets, Mohammed Amin Adam, the newly appointed Finance Minister, has pledged an assertive stance on revenue mobilization.

Appointed by President Akufo-Addo in a recent ministerial reshuffle, Mr Amin Adam delineated his revenue mobilization strategy during an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show.

With an unwavering commitment to the task at hand, Mr Amin Adam underscores the importance of close collaboration with revenue mobilization agencies to augment the country’s revenue streams. He emphasizes the pivotal role of robust financial foundations in navigating economic challenges and fostering sustainable development.

His agenda entails a proactive engagement with revenue centers including ports, airports, and market areas to galvanize the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) towards greater efficiency. Notably, he advocates for a shift towards a more amicable approach to revenue collection, aiming to mitigate reported instances of harassment.

Furthermore, he seeks to introduce a faceless assessment system within the GRA to optimize revenue collection and align with expenditure targets.

“Revenue collection will be pursued aggressively, So you are going to see me moving around the revenue centres, the ports, the airport and the market areas to encourage the staff of GRA to collect more revenue but also to institute a friendly approach to collecting revenue.

The Finance Minister further underscored his commitment to upholding expenditure discipline and ensuring optimal value for money in government projects.

His appointment arrives amidst a broader ministerial reshuffle, marking the departure of longstanding ministers from the Akufo-Addo administration.
