IEAG Congratulates Finance and Trade Ministers, Calls for Reforms in Trade Sector
The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG) has extended its congratulations to Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson on his appointment as Minister for Finance and to Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare (MP) on her assumption of office as Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry.
In a statement signed by Executive Secretary Samson Awingobit, the association expressed confidence in the capabilities of both ministers, citing Dr. Forson’s expertise in fiscal policy and economic management and Hon. Ofosu-Adjare’s commitment to empowering businesses, particularly women-led enterprises.
“We are confident in the competence and zeal of both Dr. Forson and Hon. Ofosu-Adjare to drive Ghana’s trade and maritime industry to greater heights,” the IEAG noted, adding that it stands ready to collaborate with the ministries to enhance efficiency and competitiveness in the import and export sector.
The association also urged the new ministers to prioritize long-standing challenges in Ghana’s trade sector, including bureaucratic inefficiencies, high tariffs, and inadequate infrastructure, which continue to hinder business growth.
In particular, the IEAG commended Hon. Ofosu-Adjare’s focus on supporting women-led businesses and mentorship programs for young entrepreneurs, describing it as a crucial step toward fostering an inclusive and thriving trade environment.
Reaffirming its commitment to advocating for Ghanaian traders, the IEAG expressed optimism that the new administration will work closely with industry stakeholders to implement policies that enhance trade and economic prosperity.
