Headline inflation rate for April 2021, according to the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) is 8.5 percent.
The recorded inflation rate for April, represents a 1.8 percentage points decrease from the 10.3 percent inflation rate recorded for March 2021.
Month-on-month inflation between March and April 2021 was 1.5 percent (0.6 percentage point higher than what was recorded in March).
According to the GSS, ’Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas’ (25.0 percent down from 29.0 percent last month) recorded the highest inflation while ’Transport’ (9.6 percent) and ’Insurance and Financial Services’ (9.0 percent) recorded inflation rates above the national average of 8.5 percent.
At the regional level, the overall year-on-year inflation ranged from 2.0 percent in the Upper West Region (the lowest) to 12.1 percent (the highest) in Greater Accra Region.
Food inflation was also higher than non-food inflation in six of the sixteen regions, particularly in the Western, Central, Eastern, Volta, Northern and Upper East regions.
The largest difference in Food and Non-Food inflation was recorded in the Northern Region – 10.7 percent and 5.8 percent respectively.
Overall, month-on-month food inflation rose by 2.3 percent, implying that food became relatively expensive compared to last month.
