‘It might be possible’ – Asamoah Gyan on becoming GFA President in future
Asamoah Gyan has disclosed that he might follow the steps of some African greats and contest the presidency of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in the future.
Gyan admitted that he had not thought about taking that step quite yet but refused to completely rule out the possibility either.
He also said emphatically that a number of people had approached him with the idea as well.
“I don’t know. It might be possible. I haven’t thought about it. There are a lot of people who call me and tell me that I can be the FA President one day,” he said on Asaase FM’s morning show on Tuesday.

Talking about some great African footballers who have become Football Association Presidents, Kalusha Bwalya who currently serves as a standing committee member at FIFA and the Confederation of African Football was as of 2008 the president of the Football Association of Zambia, spanning from 2008 to 2016.
He lost the FA presidency to Andrew Kamanga when he attempted a third term bid in office during the 2016 FAZ AGM.
Last year, Cameroonian football icon Samuel Eto’o, was elected the Cameroonian FA Boss and oversaw the country’s hosting of AFCON 2021 earlier in January 2022.
Didier Drogba was also recently cleared to contest the elections for the Ivorian Football Federation presidency.
Gyan did not rule out the possibility of emulating these greats, although he stated that he hasn’t actively considered it yet.
“It’s something I haven’t thought about but it might get to a time when I might pick a thought that the people are choosing me. I don’t think Samuel Eto’o and Didier Drogba ever thought that they would go for the presidency. It got to a time where they realised that they could,” Gyan added.
