Kotoka International Airport to Undergo Two-Year Runway Maintenance, Affecting Overnight Flights
Accra’s Kotoka International Airport will close its runway for six hours each night starting March 30, 2025, as part of a major two-year maintenance overhaul.
The runway will be completely unavailable from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM local time daily, with the closure set to last until March 30, 2027.
This essential runway overlay work will primarily affect airlines such as Royal Air Maroc, Turkish Airlines, Allied Air Cargo, and Ethiopian Airlines, all of which are now recalibrating their operations to avoid disruptions.
The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) formally notified airlines of the closure in an October 23 letter, signed by Managing Director Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, and assured the industry of further details, including a full schedule and contact information for key personnel.
While the closure will temporarily impact flight operations, the project is expected to significantly improve Kotoka’s runway infrastructure, enhancing safety and long-term operational efficiency for one of West Africa’s busiest air hubs.
