La Liga: Barca snatch late win over Las Palmas: Athletic Club beat struggling Sevilla
Ilkay Gundogan’s stoppage-time penalty earned Barcelona a 2-1 comeback win at 10-man Las Palmas.
Las Palmas opened the scoring in the 12th minute when former Barcelona midfielder Sandro Ramirez set up Munir El Haddadi to fire home from close range and the hosts dominated the first half.
Barca struck back 10 minutes after the break following a defensive error that allowed Sergi Roberto to find Ferran Torres who beat Las Palmas keeper Alvaro Valles with a scruffy finish.
Las Palmas defender Daley Sinkgraven was shown the red card after a push on Gundogan in added time and the former Manchester City midfielder converted his spot-kick.
Barca moved third in the LaLiga standings on 41 points, seven behind leaders Real Madrid and Girona.
Athletic Club, without talisman striker Inaki Williams – heading to the Africa Cup of Nations with Ghana – secured a 2-0 solid away win at Sevilla through goals from Mikel Vesga and Aitor Paredes.
Vesga broke the deadlock in the 30th minute with a header and Paredes rolled home the second in the final stages to help Los Leones clinch their sixth win from their last eight LaLiga games.
Athletic rise to 38 points, 10 behind Real Madrid and Girona, level with Atletico Madrid at fourth position.
Sevilla, who appointed new coach Quique Sanchez Flores in December, languish in 16th, just one point above the relegation zone.
