Lands Minister declares Sir John’s “Willed Achimota Forest lands” void
Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Jinapor, has declared void, parcels of lands in the Achimota Forest and Sakumono Ramsar Site alleged to be owned and subsequently “Willed” to relatives of the late former CEO of the Forestry Commission, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie alias Sir John.
The Lands Ministry via a press release issued on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, directed both the Lands and Forestry Commissions to take the appropriate actions to effect the directive of the Lands Minister.
“I, as Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, have directed the Lands and Forestry Commissions to deem any ownership of lands, both, in the Achimota Forest and the Sakumono Ramsar Site by the Late Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie as void and are to take the appropriate actions accordingly,” said the Minister.
The Minister, in the said press statement, revealed that the alleged Will of Sir John is currently a matter of litigation in the court of law.
Further asserting that, the Will, even if established by the Court of law, will “not pass any interest/title (lands) to the named beneficiaries in the alleged Will” as the lands will remain public lands.
