- Medeama Clinch 2025/26 Ghana Premier League Title With 5-2 Win Over Heart of Lions
Medeama SC have been crowned champions of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League after delivering a ruthless 5-2 victory over Heart of Lions at a packed Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium on Sunday.
Backed by a jubilant home crowd, the Mauve and Yellow produced one of their most commanding performances of the season to seal the title with a game to spare, moving five points clear at the summit and ending the title race before the final matchday.
It was a performance worthy of champions.
Braces from Kelvin Obeng and Derrick Fordjour powered Medeama to victory, while Prince Owusu added the fifth goal to complete a memorable afternoon in Tarkwa.
The final whistle triggered wild celebrations across the stadium as Medeama returned the Premier League trophy to Tarkwa for the first time in three years. The triumph marks the club’s second league title, following their historic success in the 2022/23 season.
It also extends the Western Region’s remarkable dominance of Ghanaian football. The league title has now remained in the region for a fourth consecutive season, following Medeama’s 2022/23 triumph, FC Samartex 1996’s 2023/24 success, Bibiani Gold Stars FC’s 2024/25 title, and Medeama’s latest championship-winning campaign.
For Medeama, the title is the reward for consistency, home strength and decisive performances when the pressure was at its highest. Their ability to finish the job before the final day underlines the authority with which they have navigated the closing stages of the season.
Their coronation was also helped by results elsewhere, particularly Dreams FC’s 3-1 win over defending champions Bibiani Gold Stars FC at the Tuba Astro Turf.
Dreams produced one of the weekend’s most consequential results, with Suraj Seidu scoring twice and Jonathan Nemorden also finding the net. Gold Stars’ afternoon unravelled further after they finished the match with nine men following dismissals to Richard Kotey, Kelvin Oppong and Bright Boakye.
The defeat ended Gold Stars’ hopes of retaining the title and confirmed Medeama as champions.
While the title race is now over, the top-four battle remains alive.
Aduana FC strengthened their push for a top-four finish with an impressive 3-1 win over Young Apostles FC in Dormaa. Patrick Mensah scored twice, while veteran forward Bright Agyei came off the bench to win a penalty and add the third goal for the Fire Boys.
The result keeps Aduana in strong position heading into the final round and gives them momentum at a crucial stage of the campaign.
At Samreboi, FC Samartex 1996 reignited their own top-four hopes with a narrow 1-0 victory over Hearts of Oak SC. Gabriel Osei scored the decisive second-half goal, handing Samartex an important win while dealing another blow to Hearts’ fading ambitions.
For Hearts, the result will feel like another missed opportunity in a season that promised more but has been defined by inconsistency at decisive moments.
Bechem United FC delivered one of the weekend’s most important results at Nana Gyeabour Park, defeating Asante Kotoko SC 3-1 to secure their Premier League survival.
Former Kotoko star Augustine Okrah was the standout performer, scoring a brilliant brace against his old club to help the Hunters preserve their top-flight status. The win was emphatic, emotional and season-saving for Bechem.
For Kotoko, however, the defeat represents another damaging setback in their push for a strong finish.
The relegation battle also produced major drama in Tamale, where Karela United FC left it late to beat Swedru All Blacks FC.
A stoppage-time winner from Zaidan Mohammed gave Karela a vital victory, keeping their momentum alive heading into the final day while piling pressure on Swedru All Blacks in the survival race.
The result could prove decisive, not only because of the three points, but because of the psychological lift it gives Karela before the final round of fixtures.
The survival fight intensified further as Vision FC claimed a crucial 1-0 victory over Nations FC through Faruk Mohammed’s decisive strike against his former side.
Vision’s win was made even more dramatic by goalkeeper Godwin Ametefe, who emerged as the hero after saving a stoppage-time penalty. The result leaves Nations FC staring at possible relegation, with their final-day assignment now carrying enormous pressure.
For Vision, it was the kind of victory that can define a survival campaign: narrow, tense and built on nerve.
Elsewhere, Berekum Chelsea FC continued their strong finish to the season with a comfortable 2-0 win over already relegated Eleven Wonders FC.
Goals from Abubakari Seidu and Marvin Owusu ensured Chelsea climbed into mid-table heading into the final round. It was a professional result against a side whose fate had already been sealed, but Chelsea will take confidence from the way they are closing the campaign.
With Medeama now confirmed as champions, the Ghana Premier League’s final day will shift attention firmly to the unresolved battles beneath the summit.
The top-four race remains competitive, with several clubs still fighting for pride, positioning and possible continental ambition. But the most intense drama will be at the bottom, where survival remains uncertain and every point could separate safety from relegation.
Medeama have delivered the season’s biggest statement. Tarkwa has its crown back. The Western Region’s football dominance continues.
But for the rest of the league, the campaign still has one more day of drama to deliver.
