Mobilised E-Levy revenue to hit GHS 1.2bn at end-2023, says GRA Commissioner General
Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Reverend Dr Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, has stated that tax revenue mobilised from the 1% E-Levy charged on mobile money transactions is likely to amount to GHS 1.2bn by the end of 2023.
According to him, average monthly revenue from E-Levy for the first half of 2023 was some GHS 80m.
This further improved to an average monthly revenue of GHS 100m in the second half of 2023.
Making the assertion during an interview on Joy News’ PM Express monitored by norvanreports on Thursday, December 28, Dr Owusu-Amoah noted that, the GRA as of the end of November 2023 had mobilised a total tax revenue of GHS 1.1bn from the E-Levy.
“We have so far collected GHS 1.1bn in revenue and are hoping that by the end of 2023 we will be able to collect GHS 1.2bn to GHS 1.3bn in total tax revenue from the E-Levy,” he remarked noting that the 0.5% reduction in the E-Levy charge has led to an increase in revenue generated from the levy.
Speaking further during the interview, Dr Owusu-Amoah noted that generally, most tax handles for this year, have performed well citing the VAT and corporate income tax.
“Customs revenue and domestic revenue tax have grown by 45% and 51% on a year-on-year basis respectively, and so on average we have seen 50% growth in revenue mobilisation in 2023 as compared to 2022,” he added expressing optimism of reaching the GHS 106bn revenue target for this year.
Good work keep it up Dr.
