Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel Names First Ghanaian GM Since 2011 Reopening
Isaac Okpoti Adjei has been appointed as the new General Manager of Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel Accra, becoming the first Ghanaian to hold the position since the hotel’s reopening in 2011.
The appointment of Mr Adjei marks a significant milestone for the five-star hotel, which is widely regarded as Ghana’s premier international luxury destination. Strategically situated in Accra’s central business district and set within 16 acres of landscaped gardens, the hotel is a flagship property under the Accor Group.
Known for its 260 tastefully designed rooms and suites, the largest lagoon-style pool in the capital, and a unique collection of over 1,500 African artworks, Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel Accra combines hospitality, culture, and business with a distinctive flair.
Originally established in the 1950s as the Ambassador Hotel and gifted to the Government of Ghana, the property has evolved into a modern icon of luxury hospitality. Mr Adjei’s elevation to the top management role is seen as a reflection of this enduring legacy and a celebration of local excellence.
Mr Adjei brings to the role over two decades of extensive experience within the Accor network, having started his career at Novotel Accra. Over the years, he has held key positions across Operations, Commercial, and Learning & Development, and has contributed to projects across Africa and the Caribbean under Accor’s luxury, premium, and economy brands.
A Certified Accor Trainer, he has played a vital role in mentoring emerging talent and enhancing service delivery within the group. Notably, Mr Adjei was part of the pre-opening team of Mövenpick Accra, helping to shape the hotel’s brand and operational identity. His return to the hotel after several international postings signals a homecoming rooted in dedication and institutional knowledge.
Prior to his appointment as General Manager, Mr Adjei served as Executive Assistant Manager of the hotel.
He holds a First-Class degree in Social Sciences from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), a Master of Philosophy in French from the University of Ghana, a Bachelor of Laws degree from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), and a Qualifying Certificate of Law from the Ghana School of Law.
Commenting on the appointment, Paul Stevens, Chief Operating Officer for Middle East, Africa & Turkey at Accor, remarked, “We are delighted to see Isaac take on this important leadership role. His deep understanding of the brand and passion for service make him the ideal leader to guide Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel Accra into its next chapter.”
The appointment aligns with Accor’s broader strategy of nurturing local talent and promoting diversity within its global leadership ranks.
