MTN FA Cup: Hearts of Oak progress to round of 32
Accra Hearts of Oak advanced to the next stage of the MTN FA Cup on Wednesday afternoon as they pipped Accra Lions at the Carl Reindorf Park.
The results means the Phobians have now beaten Lions in two successive games with the first coming in a 2-0 win on Matchday 9bif the Ghana Premier League and have followed up with a 1-0 win in the cup competition to reach the round of 32.
The only goal of the encounter was scored by Ibrahim Salifu in the 22nd minute after the talismanic midfielder converted nicely from close range a sumptuous pass from Isaac Mensah.
Accra Lions had their peaked moments with one coming in the 66th minute when they almost equalised but Daniel Awuni hit the post after beating his marker.
In the very latter part of the game, Lions appealed for a penalty as they thought Hearts defender Caleb Amankwah had handled the ball in the box, but referee Charles Bulu ruled that out.
Hearts of Oak now progress to the round of 32 with high hopes of defending their title as well as securing a place in the first qualifying round of the 2022 CAF Confederation Cup
