MTN FA Cup: King Faisal edge Aduana FC to advance to semis
King Faisal twice came from behind to complicate matters for Aduana FC as they beat them 3-1 on penalties to progress to the semifinal of the 2022/23 MTN FA Cup.
After a 2-2 draw in normal time, both sides failed to score in extra time as the game travelled into penalty shootouts after 120 minutes at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports complex on Sunday.
Aduana FC took the lead in the 40th minute through Stephen Anokye Badu but King Faisal rallied back for the equalizer in the 47th minute. Godfred Asiamah was brought down in the box and Abdul Latif expertly converted to make it 1-1.
Frank Owusu made it 2-1 for Aduana FC in the 75th minute, but the lead lasted for only three minutes as King Faisal equalized through Benjamin Bature in the 78th minute. The game travelled into extra time after the normal 90 minutes ended 2-2. The extra 30 minutes did not see any goal as the winner of the tie was decided in a tensed penalty shootouts.
Abdul Latif, Adam Jabal and David Oppong Afrane scored for King Faisal while Bright Enchil, Stephen Anokye Badu and Isaac Mintah missed their kicks to give King Faisal a 3-1 win.
King Faisal will now play fellow Premier League side Nsoatreman FC in the semifinal of the MTN FA Cup.
The Premier League new boys scored in the first half to eliminate three-time finalist Real Tamale United.
Nsoatreman FC went into the game looking to bounce back from a disastrous run of results in recent games having won only once in their last five appearances in the betPawa Premier League.
After a fairly balanced game in the opening minutes, Philip Ofori gave Nsoatreman FC a surprising lead against the run of play through a 45th minute corner kick.
Real Tamale United switched back on immediately after halftime looking for the leveler but the visitors had Goalkeeper Daniel Afadzwu to thank for making three top quality saves to keep them in the game.
Real Tamale United let down their fans after missing numerous golden chances that came their way as Nsoatreman held on to win 1-0 on the raod.
The newly promoted Premier League side have now qualified to their first ever semifinal appearance in the history of the MTN FA Cup.
Eric Antwi Konadu’s second minute strike gave Skyy FC a 1-0 win over Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs to qualify to set up a semifinal clash with Dreams FC.
The Zone Two leaders who crashed out of the competition at this stage last season after losing 1-0 to Accra Hearts of Oak – took full advantage this time as they translated their form in the Division One League to the MTN FA Cup.
Eric Antwi Konadu smartly danced his way through the defence after receiving a lovely pass from the wings before smashing home the winner inside two minutes.
The Daboase lads join three Premier League sides, Dreams FC, King Faisal and Nsoatreman FC in the last four of the Cup competition.
