GCB Bank Donates to Chief Imam Ahead of Eid-ul-Adha Festivities, Announces Plans for Hajj Account
As part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) and in anticipation of the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha celebrations, GCB Bank has made a donation to the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu.
The donation, which included a live bull and an undisclosed cash amount, was presented to the Chief Imam during a courtesy call at his residence on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.
The donation is intended to support the Chief Imam in his preparations for hosting guests during the Islamic festival, which falls on Friday, June 6, 2025.
Executive Head of Retail Banking at GCB, Sina Kamagate, speaking on behalf of the Managing Director of GCB Bank, Farihan Alhassan, highlighted the significance of the donation, noting that the gesture has become an annual tradition for the bank as part of its commitment to fostering religious harmony and social inclusion.
“Today’s visit is essentially part of GCB’s CSR. As a bank that operates in a multi-religious country, we appreciate the essence of religious celebrations, one of which is Eid-ul-Adha. It’s a time to commemorate the sacrifices of Prophet Ibrahim,” Mr. Kamagate stated.
He underscored the vital role played by religious and traditional leaders in maintaining peace in the country, emphasizing that GCB places high value on such leadership and seeks to support them in their efforts.
Beyond the donation, Mr. Kamagate disclosed plans by the bank to introduce a dedicated Hajj Account to assist Muslims with their financial preparations toward embarking on the holy pilgrimage to Mecca.
“We will soon be launching an account known as the Hajj Account. This account will help Muslims, especially those with limited means, to gradually build up the funds needed for the pilgrimage,” he revealed.
He added that the bank remains committed to financial inclusion, serving clients of all religious backgrounds across the country.
“We do not discriminate, we have accounts for churches, mosques, and everyone. GCB is present in communities where no other bank operates, and we fully understand our responsibilities,” he added.
Receiving the items, the Chief Imam expressed his deep appreciation to GCB Bank for the kind gesture and consistent support over the years.
He offered prayers for the continued growth and success of the bank within Ghana’s banking landscape.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant events on the Islamic calendar, marking the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God.
