- New GFA-MMT Deal Promises Safer Buses, Better Matchday Travel for Fans
The Ghana Football Association has signed a landmark partnership with Metro Mass Transit aimed at improving transportation for national teams, domestic clubs, match officials and football supporters across the country. The agreement, unveiled at the GFA headquarters on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, is expected to modernise football travel logistics, enhance safety standards and improve the matchday experience for fans attending domestic league and national team matches.
Under the partnership, Metro Mass Transit will provide safe, insured and roadworthy 54-seater buses to support the movement of Ghana’s national teams, Ghana Premier League clubs and other competitions organised under the GFA.
The arrangement will also see MMT deploy trained and licensed drivers for clubs, officials, supporters and other football stakeholders, as the football governing body seeks to reduce the travel difficulties that have long affected domestic football operations.
Football clubs, referees and GFA staff are also expected to benefit from discounted fares on MMT travel and cargo services, a move likely to ease some operational costs within the football ecosystem.
A major component of the agreement is the introduction of a Fan Transport Programme, designed to provide organised transport services for supporters on matchdays. The initiative will include designated pick-up and drop-off points for league fixtures and national team matches.
The programme is expected to improve stadium access, reduce travel stress for fans and help boost attendance at domestic league matches and Black Stars games.
Supporters will also be able to reserve transport services online through a digital platform to be jointly developed by the GFA and MMT.
Speaking at the launch, GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku described the partnership as a major step in the modernisation of football logistics in Ghana.
“The collaboration represents a major milestone in the modernization of football logistics in Ghana,” he said.
“By combining reliable transport infrastructure, fan-centered mobility solutions, digital systems and dedicated services for clubs and national teams, the partnership is poised to transform how football travel is managed across the country,” he added.
Mr Okraku also commended Metro Mass Transit Managing Director Kale Caesar for his role in bringing the partnership to life.
“We thank you sincerely for your commitment, your collaboration and your confidence in the Ghana Football Association,” he stated.
Mr Caesar said MMT was committed to supporting football development through reliable transport and improved fan mobility.
“As a transport company built to serve the people of Ghana, we understand movement, access and reliability. These same values drive performance in football,” he said.
He added that the planned online booking platform would make it easier for fans to access organised transport services, improve stadium attendance and enhance the commercial appeal of local football.
In a further pledge, Mr Caesar disclosed that Metro Mass Transit intends to provide an ultra-modern executive luxury bus for the Black Stars and other national teams.
“By the grace of God, MMT will provide an ultra-modern executive luxury bus to facilitate the movement of the Black Stars and other national teams,” he said.
He also announced that MMT is expanding its fleet and preparing to introduce 100 brand-new buses as part of broader national transport improvements aligned with government policy priorities.
Referencing President John Dramani Mahama’s 24-hour economy agenda, Mr Caesar said MMT was ready to support sporting events and wider economic activity across the country.
“We are poised to provide the transportation that will keep businesses running at night and our sports stadia roaring with dribbles and goals during football matches at midnight,” he said.
With Ghana preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Mr Caesar urged the Black Stars to aim beyond participation.
“The target is not participation. The target is the medal zone,” he declared.
The partnership marks a significant intervention in Ghana’s football ecosystem, where travel logistics, safety and supporter access have often affected club operations and matchday attendance.
For the GFA, the agreement offers an opportunity to improve the organisation of domestic football and make the matchday experience more predictable and attractive. For Metro Mass Transit, it provides a platform to position public transport as a direct enabler of sports development, fan culture and national team support.
The real test, however, will be implementation — whether the buses arrive on time, the digital booking platform works efficiently, clubs benefit meaningfully from the discounts, and fans are convinced that organised matchday transport can become part of Ghana’s football culture.
