- Northern Ghana Attracts US$1.91 Billion in Investment as GIPA Seeks Fresh Capital
The Ghana Investment Promotion Authority has begun a 13-day investment roadshow across Northern Ghana to connect investors with 128 projects identified across five regions.
The exercise, scheduled for October 11 to 23, covers the Northern, North East, Savannah, Upper East and Upper West regions. It forms part of preparations for the Invest Ghana Summit, which is scheduled for November 16 and 17, 2026.
The roadshow follows GIPA’s Investment Opportunities Mapping Project, launched in July 2025 to identify commercially viable projects across the country. The exercise has so far generated more than 600 project profiles nationwide.
Of the total, 128 came from Ghana’s five northern regions, spanning agriculture, agro-processing, manufacturing, tourism, mining, renewable energy, logistics and trade.
The Upper West Region recorded the largest number, with 45 project profiles. It was followed by the Northern Region with 38, Savannah with 19, Upper East with 16 and North East with 10.
GIPA said the roadshow represented a shift from simply promoting Ghana as an investment destination to actively mobilising capital for specific projects.
The identified opportunities build on almost US$2 billion in investment registered in the northern part of the country over the past three decades.
GIPA data show that the five regions attracted 100 registered investment projects, with an estimated foreign direct investment value of US$1.91 billion, between 1994 and June 2026.
The Northern Region accounted for 68 of those projects, followed by Upper East with 14, North East with seven, Upper West with six and Savannah with five. Much of the investment was concentrated in agriculture and manufacturing.
Simon Madjie, Chief Executive Officer of GIPA, said Northern Ghana had significant opportunities in commercial agriculture, agro-processing, livestock, renewable energy, tourism, mining, manufacturing and cross-border trade.
“Northern Ghana is no longer a frontier of potential. It is a destination of opportunity,” he said.
“Through this roadshow, we are taking investment opportunities directly to the market, building strategic partnerships and creating pathways for investors to take part in the region’s transformation.”
The roadshow will be led by GIPA Deputy Chief Executive Officer Abdul Razak Baba, who is expected to meet regional ministers, traditional authorities and business leaders.
The delegation will also visit investment sites and operating companies, including Savannah Diamond Cement at Buipe and Baba Tree Company Limited in Wa, to assess existing operations and identify possibilities for expansion and collaboration.
Beyond attracting investors, the initiative will test whether GIPA’s project-mapping exercise can convert regional opportunities into financed businesses and jobs. Northern Ghana has historically attracted a smaller share of investment than the country’s southern commercial centres, despite its agricultural land, mineral resources and proximity to neighbouring markets.
By linking identified projects with prospective investors, GIPA is seeking to reduce that geographical imbalance and channel more capital towards underserved regions.
The roadshow is being organised in partnership with MTN Ghana, with support from the Office of the Chief of Staff, the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, Ghana Free Zones Authority, Ghana Enterprises Agency, the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat and the regional coordinating councils.
