Ghanaians take part in Afrobarometer’s Summer School training held in South Africa
A non-partisan, pan-African survey research network that provides reliable data on African experience and evaluation of democracy, governance and quality of life, Afrobarometer, has hosted a summer school in Pretoria, South Africa to train the next generation of African Researchers.
The free training programme happening this November, involves 31 participants from 13 countries and selected out of the over 550 applications.
The training is meant to provide common opportunity for African Researchers both in government and non-governmental institutions, policy actors and post graduate students to bring out their skills in data analysis..
Additionally, their work will continue for more than two decades of survey data collected by Afrobarometer across the African Continent.
Capacity building manager, Dominique Dryding says “Afrobarometer is pleased to welcome a cohort of exceptional young talents. We are thrilled to provide hands on training to empower the next generation of African scholars and help address the continent’s needs for highly skilled Africa data researcher. In a world increasingly dependent on credible data, these skills are needed than ever.
Meanwhile, one of the students, Monique Bennet who is a senior researcher for good governance Africa, spoke expressing how extremely excited she is to be a part of the training.
Adding that, “My hope is that the training will aid strengthen my ability to analyze survey data across topics such as conflict, migration and elections whilst guiding me on the process of writing an Afrobarometer Publication. Afrobarometer provides a significant platform for early career African academics like myself, so I am honored to be part of the training, and potentially reach publications”.
